We purchased "Chateau Davies" in La Roche Menard, in August 2003, after many happy holidays touring round France. We have always stayed over in Burgundy en route to other regions. One year we stayed in Burgundy for the duration of our holiday and quickly realised that the Morvan was where we would like to have our "maison secondaire".
We found Montreuillon and fell in love with it ! We try and visit as often as we can, but is never often enough ! Everyone is so helpful and friendly, and nothing is too much trouble. All you need is close by, Mag and Fred for croissants and lovely bread, Pascal's Restaurant l'Aqueduc, with his wide range of acitivities, hairdressers and Post Office in the Mairie. It is great to have a walk around the village with Holly as the sun gœs down and call in at Pascal's for a nightcap.
The magnificent rolling countryside around Montreuillon is easy to explore with many walks available. As we sit on the terrace we can also hear the squeals of delight of the people in Kayaks going down the River Yonne.
A passport was arranged for our dog, Holly in 2006 and she has visited with us ever since. She adores Montreuillon and can be seen every Friday afternoon, when Mons Laurent the Butcher visits La Roche Menard. She patiently waits for an "os" then runs down the garden and buries it, returns for a second one, duly given, and repeats the process. She then visits for the third time, this time she settles down and enjoys it! The garden must be full of her buried treasure. She carries Le Journal home every morning from Pascal's, much to the café customers' amusement
Many a happy afternoon are spent with our neighbours on the terrace eating Scones, Bakewell Tart or Lemon Merangue. I enjoy baking, but never have the time in England. I have attached the recipe for Scones, just add sunshine, and wonderful friends and neighbours for a perfect afternoon.
The renovation of our little Chateau has been a long process, but it is now nearing completion. We can wait to sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labours !
