We bought a house to renovate in Montreuillon back in 2004 and the first impression we had was driving past beautiful Lac de Paneciere with the sun
glistening across the water, not a bad start !
The region is truly breath-taking with its rolling landscape and wooded hills that beg to be explored and Montreuillon sits in the centre of it all.
The village itself is situated on the banks of the River Yonne wich runs through the centre, this is an idyllic place for Fisherman to while away a few hours and hopefully catch their supper.
We enjoyed several walks and bike trails that take you in and around the village and allow you to escape into the French countryside. One in particular will take you across the famous Montreuillon aqueduct which gives you a spectacular view of the village and will pass our house ! A cup of English tea is available on request, no charge ! However if you require a croissant with it call in at Mag & Fred's Boulangerie first, please note I prefer a Pain au raisin myself !
For those of you who like the more sedate life, the village allows you the time to relax and watch life go by in front of your eyes, we often sit at the Bar L'Aqueduc and enjoy a biere or a Chocolat chaud served by Pascal, a typical Frenchman and a more friendly guy you would be hard pressed to find ! A brief walk across the river will take you into the Place de l'Euro where a game of Boules can be had and on Thursday the weekly Market is held.
Having spent seven glorious years completing our dream home and purely by luck finding our dream village with friendly faces who are always eager to help , we decided to move here in may 2011.
I cannot think of a more perfect place to spend your time believe me and an englishman (and his wife) are never wrong !
